ESS - May 15 Work Party Prioritized Task List - Kellogg Middle School
Focus Area: Elevated bed with large pink dogwood near main entrance
1. Make large letter K in bare space using succulents (perennials) as outline and fill in with annuals - primrose in spring, mums in fall and pansies in winter.
2. Remove the madrona start.
3. Move grasses to reduce crowding and extend border near school sign.
4. Add a nandina to make a threesome
5. General weeding
Focus Area: Long planting strip near street
1. Weed and tidy (clip dead growth, etc.)
2. Move the small hemlock that is too close to building foundation to empty space at left of tree with the burgundy bark
3. Move crowded bronzed leaved Oregon grape from area close to foundation to bare area near tree with burgundy bark
4. Prune the pink perius at bottom
5. In fall, plant clumps of bulbs and low-growing Oregon grape in bare areas
Focus Area: Beds near main entrance
1. Prune to remove dead branches and reduce crowding
2. Weeding
3. Move azalea and small Oregon grapes that are crowding perius
4. Cut back vibernum so it is off the sidewalk

Focus Area: Beds near side bus entrance
1. Remove the perius
2. Recommend that district remove tree that is attached to wall
3. Weed and sweep fallen berries, etc.
Focus Area: Beds next to building left of main entrance
1. Inform district grounds department of water gathering near foundation and reccommend that large Oregon grape be dug away from foundation - task too large for ESS - replace it with a donated rhody
2. Prune and weed as needed
Focus Area: Douglas Fir Grove
1. Remove the small Doug Fir (not enough room for it to grow in space)
Focus Area: Science Garden
1. Prune wisteria and lavender to shape
2. Move platform birdhouse into fir across street
3. Attach tall read birdhouse in fir using wire
3. Move rocks from grass and drainage area to area across street near fence
4. Weed and tidy up compost bins
Tools needed: pruning shears, pruning saw, brooms, pry bar, shovels, rakes, pitch forks, clippers, gloves, ladder for hanging birdhouses, buckets,wheel barrows
